20 Things You Do That You Don't Realize Annoy Others

Stop Doing These Annoying Behaviors

1. Tapping Your Feet

It may seem like an innocent thing to do, but tapping your feet annoys more people around you than you might think. The sound of it can make people feel anxious, as if they're late or being scrutinized. Next time, try to keep your foot flat on the ground.

2. Mumbling/Speaking Too Quietly

Come again? People find it really frustrating talking to someone who doesn't eununciate or speak loudly enough so others can hear. It puts them in an awkward position where they have to repeatedly ask them to say it again.

3. Being Loud As A Group In Public

We know you're having a good time with your friends, but maybe try to remember there are others around you too. When you're in public being rowdy with a large group, it upsets others trying to go about their day. It's important to be respectful even when you're just having a good time.

4. Walking Slowly

If you're walking in heavy traffic and you know you need to stop or slow down, be mindful and move to the side. Holding up foot traffic by standing still is incredibly disruptive to everyone else around you. No one wants to be caught behind someone who simply isn't being considerate.

5. Taking Too Long To Decide What To Order

We've all been here before, having to wait behind someone who's taking way too long to figure out what they want to order. There's nothing wrong with taking a few seconds to look at the menu, but if you're reaching a couple of minutes, that's just unreasonable. You're at the front buddy, maybe next time come a little bit more prepared?

6. Not Putting Your Shopping Cart Back

There's nothing more irritating than seeing someone leave their shopping cart mindlessly in the parking lot. It's even more infuriating if they leave it in a spot or block a car's path! Be respectful of the store and all its customers - it doesn't take that much work to walk a couple of meters away to put it back in its proper spot.

7. Talking Too Quickly

People always struggle trying to keep up with those who talk way too quickly. It can be annoying trying to figure out what they're saying when they're going 70 miles per minute. It's especially frustrating if they're trying to get out important information you need to know.

8. Manspreading On Public Transit

Quit taking up so much space on public transit! We know you're just trying to get comfortable, but keep in mind there are plenty of other passengers around too. Always make space so others can sit, and don't manspread just for your own comfort. Ladies, this includes you too.

9. Sucking On An Empty Drink

You may not realize you're annoying other people when you're trying to finish the last of your drink, but that loud noise the straw makes when you suck on it is a pet peeve for many people. The sound is reminiscent of running your nails along a chalkboard - it just gives us the heebie jeebies.

10. Cutting Up Your Text Instead Of Sending It All In One

Do you really need to cut off every sentence when you hit send? For some reason, many people love sending messages in fragments. Doing so can make things feel a bit jumbled at times, so why not just wait to type everything out before hitting the button?

11. Taking Both Armrests

If you don't want to get some nasty looks from the people sitting next to you, don't treat yourself as all high and mighty be taking both armrests. Not only are you potentially entering the personal space of those sitting next to you, it just makes them uncomfortable while you benefit from your own selfish gain.

12. Leaving Crumbs Behind

While no, it's not as big or messy as a spill or dropped food, but crumbs are equally as annoying to deal with. Especially if you're out in public or at someone's house, putting in the extra effort to clean up after yourself can make a world of difference. It just means you're being respectful of other people and their space.

13. Driving Below The Speed Limit

Speeding is certainly dangerous when you're on the road and should be avoided, but driving below the speed limit is another action that should be called out more often too. Going too slow is equally as dangerous as going too fast. You're putting yourself and others at risk by causing cars to brake to avoid you.

14. Dropping Clothes On The Floor In Retail Stores

If you don't leave your clothes on the floor at home, why is it okay for you to do it in a store? Not only is it disrespectful to the workers who do their best to keep the store neat and tidy, it's rude to other customers who now have to pick up products they might want to buy from the floor. It's not that hard to pick things up and put it back on the rack.

15. Not Fixing Bad Parking

If there's one irk that every driver shares, it's dealing with people who park poorly and leave it that way. Not adjusting to better fit within the lines just means you're taking up two spots instead of one. Can you imagine how annoying it'd be having to deal with that in a busy parking lot?

16. Illegible Writing

Messy, illegible writing is the equivalent of someone mumbling or talking too fast. You just have no idea what's going on! How can you possibly expect someone to get your message if they can't even read it or understand a single word!

17. Struggling To Make Decisions

If someone asks you a question and you can't decide on an answer in an appropriate amount of time, they're going to start getting annoyed. Whether it's asking where you want to eat or what you want to do, try to at least come up with some kind of response. Saying "I don't know" or "You choose" will just irritate them more. We're sure this is one all couples are familiar with.

18. Entering A Room Without Knocking First

Some privacy please? There's a reason why it's common courtesy to knock first before entering a room - it shows that you're respecting people's privacy! Just barging in is incredibly rude and makes you seem like an inconsiderate person. A little heads up should always be given.

19. Spitting On The Pavement

This one is pretty self-explanatory. No one wants to see you spitting on the grass, sidewalk, or anywhere in public as a matter of fact. It doesn't matter if you've got some phlegm or something to spit out, it's just rude behavior that makes people uncomfortable.

20. Groups That Walk In A Line

There's nothing wrong with walking side by side with your friends, but be mindful to make room for other passengers that cross your path. Not moving and forcing others to walk on the grass or road just to get around you is disrespectful and very annoying to deal with.
