These Budget-Friendly Staycation Ideas Will Make You Feel Like You're In Paradise At Home

Sometimes, a vacation to a world-class resort or Michelin-star dining just isn’t in the cards—credit cards, that is. Regular travel isn’t something many of us have the opportunity to do these days.

That said, it doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a vacation, even if it's a little different from what you were hoping for. Staycations are the ultimate budget-friendly luxury to those of us who don’t have an extra $1000 lying around. And we promise, it’ll be (almost) just as nice. Here are some ways you can enjoy a week of R&R from the comfort of your own home.

Explore Your Own City

Live like a tourist for once! This staycation allows you to check out museums, galleries, and neighborhoods that you might not have gotten the opportunity to check out before. If you’re feeling a little directionless in terms of where and what you want to see, you could check out available tours that can get you where you need to go.

If your city isn’t piquing your interest, a day trip to a neighboring area is also a good way to go. This could mean a beach day, a visit to a zoo or park, or to check out a really cool restaurant that you haven’t been able to get out to.

If you don’t drive or can’t get access to a car, bus tours are a great way to get you where you need to go.

Spa Day

Whether you’re able to book a day trip to a spa or are just planning on doing a face mask at home, there are many ways to make your space feel as relaxing as possible.

Set up a dedicated relaxation space with calming music, good smells, and the fluffiest towels you can find. Indulge yourself with a hot shower, mani-pedi, and some top-tier skincare.

If you have friends or loved ones who can join you, you can make a whole day out of it! Put on some comfort movies, order or make a big lunch, and cultivate some good slumber party vibes.

Themed Nights

A theme night can be fun for the whole family, and still lets you try something new. Pick a culinary delight that you’d like to try, do a movie marathon to catch up on flicks you haven’t seen yet, or host a get-together where everyone dresses up.

Craft nights or game nights are also a good, low-stress option, especially if you don’t want to spend the next day of your staycation cleaning up after a party.

Other Tips

Make your staycation truly something special with the following:

  • Disconnect. We mean it. Turn off your work phone, uninstall your email app for a week, and keep your computer as hobby-focused for seven days.
  • Rest. If you’re spending a week at home, a few chores are bound to pop up here and there, but this is not the time for a deep clean. If it makes things easier, do a deep clean before your staycation.
  • Take Time For Yourself. Just because you’re not going away somewhere doesn’t mean you need to spend the week catching up on your social life. If your idea of relaxation involves some alone time in a cozy cafe, then don’t be afraid to do just that.
