Silly Dates to Bring You Closer
What’s a relationship without some laughter? Without some cheesiness? That's right—it's boring, and that's exactly why we need to work together to bring a little whimsy back into our lives. It's time to do away with any nasty stereotypes and welcome the cheesy stuff with open arms. From laser tag to comedy shows, these so-called tacky dates are actually incredibly fun, and we're here to vouch for all of them!
1. Backyard Picnic
We know it sounds a little tacky to plop yourself in the grass, but backyard picnics are a cute way to connect with your partner. They’re cheap, too, so you don’t have to worry about splurging on fine dining or fancy atmosphere—a string of fairy lights, some finger foods, and a cozy blanket tie the whole thing together.

2. Bowling
Bowling isn’t just for kids’ parties! Okay, yes, the place is crowded and every surface is probably covered in pizza grease, but bowling is an adorable, affordable date option for partners at any stage of their relationship. You don’t need to be good; you just need to bring a healthy attitude and accept it for the cheesy fun it is.
3. Cook Dinner Together
Co-ed cooking might sound like your everyday night, but we're talking about expanding your culinary options. If you cook together all the time, try baking something. If you’ve never cooked together, make an easy-peasy dish with only a few ingredients. The world is your oyster.
4. Karaoke Night
Are you a terrible singer? Do you have an urge to belt out Beyoncé? Looks like it’s karaoke for you! Grab your partner and head out for a fun night of singing and drinking. From ‘90s nostalgia to the latest bangers, you can croon your little heart out.
5. Ride Public Transportation
Wait a minute. Isn’t this just a boring morning routine? No! Riding the bus together is a surprisingly fun way to people-watch (respectfully) with your partner. You can also travel to new areas and sight-see your very own city.
6. Build a Blanket Fort
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia, and what cooler trip down Memory Lane can you make besides a blanket fort? Grab some pillows and your favorite snacks for a night in the coziest spot. Also, let’s be honest—we need something to do with our flat sheets.
7. Go to the Arcade
Arcades, like so many things, lose their appeal in adulthood. They’re overpriced, the joysticks are greasy, and it’s overrun with screaming kids. However, certain arcades are for adults only (or have adult-only hours), meaning you can spring for a nostalgic night of classic games. Sure, it’s a little pricey, but what’s one night of old-school fun?
8. Board Game Night
Now, if you're looking for a more low-key games night, board games bring the fun without any of the noise. With hundreds of options out there, you can indulge in your competitive side or work alongside your partner in collaborative games.
9. Tour Your City
Do you know what's crazy about living in a cool city? That you can camp there your whole life without experiencing all its wonders. Well, there’s no time like the present to get out and see what's in your backyard! All you need to do is get your partner and a little spending money for a solid night on the town.
10. Paint-and-Sip Class
Even if art isn’t your forte, paint-and-sip classes welcome all types of creative connoisseurs. Indulge in a spot of wine while you try your hardest to paint a bowl of fruit, and just hope your date doesn’t see the monstrosity.
11. Amusement Park
We know it's tempting, but don’t turn up your nose at amusement parks. They’re filled with all the charm you remember from childhood, only now you have money for all that overpriced food! Sink your teeth into some cotton candy or enjoy a peaceful ride on the Ferris wheel; it’s all more romantic than it sounds.
12. Build LEGO Together
You and your sweetheart can feel like kids in a toy store with this one, literally! Keep away from any pricey sets and splurge on the easier ones, though, like flower bouquets and fandom pieces. Don't worry, they still make for a good night’s work. Think of it as building IKEA furniture, only way more fun.
13. Head to the Zoo
Who doesn’t get a kick out of adorable animals? Do yourself a favor: spot beloved wildlife and enjoy a solid day of walking the exhibits. The only downside is you might miss your favorite animal, but there’s still plenty to see.
14. Mini Golf
While some couples love hitting the green together, not every pair enjoys 18 holes. Go back to basics with mini golf. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll probably swing too hard and hit a cardboard cutout—either way, the idea’s a hole-in-one.
15. Comedy Show
Speaking of laughter, comedy shows are an entertaining way to spend any evening (so long as you sit in the back). Chances are, your city has pay-what-you-can nights, allowing you both to get in the giggles without flushing all your money away.
16. Go Dancing
It’s okay if you have two left feet; dance classes are meant to bring out the best in all of us. Dip and sway around the room with your favorite person as you learn a new dance style. Take a class with them. You never know, you might even make new friends.

17. Laser Tag Night
Pew pew pew! Hopefully, that brought you back to fun nights darting around corners and watching vests light up. If not, you can always reconnect with your inner child by heading back to the course for an evening. Duck behind walls, hide around pillars, or make a mad dash across the room before the time's up. Whatever you do, we're rooting for you.

18. Outdoor S’Mores
If you have a fire pit outside, why not head out for a night under the stars? Just make sure that you bring a cozy blanket and make sure you have the chocolate; nothing’s better than melted marshmallows and graham crackers in your very own backyard. Oh, and snuggling up to your crush as well.
19. Make Clay Figures
Okay, maybe you don’t want to try your hand at public painting. Could we interest you in privately-made clay figures instead? This cute idea is not only affordable, but it also brings back all the fun of Play-Doh without that weird smell. Plus, you'll have a little keepsake you can then display.
20. Escape Room
Nothing says “together forever” like an escape room. Put your heads together for an intense date night, one that requires you to work together. It's okay if you take an embarrassingly long time to figure it out; an employee always helps those who wander in circles.
