Cheap Last-Minute Halloween Costumes That Don’t Feel Lazy Or Low-Effort

Easy Costumes On A Dime

You want to attend the Halloween party, but you're just too busy for costume planning. Forget about packaged costumes–– they're overpriced and poor quality. It's too much effort to make one from scratch, and you don't want to spend the money. Well, fear not, Lazy Bones––with these cheap and easy ideas, you'll be costume-contest-ready in no time.

Cool Ghost

Here's an old-school apparition with a twist. As a cool ghost, you'll get no "boos," you'll only receive applause and laughter! Whip up this spirit dude with an old white bedsheet and a pair of your coolest shades. Of course, there's no reason to limit yourself either; transform into a "sultry ghost" by wearing lingerie over top of the sheet.

Ketchup & Mustard

Chances are you've got some sort of red or yellow attire in your wardrobe, which is literally all you need to bring this simple costume to life. If not, these clothes will be easy to find in a thrift store. Grab your partner and find red and yellow birthday hats from the dollar store as lids for your noggins. With the whole color-matching ensemble, you'll be the best dressed condiments at the party.

Spa Day

Lean into your laziness with a costume that's all about relaxation. With a robe and a towel on your head, your costume will have you ready for bed straight after all the candy's gone. Slather on a face mask and have cucumber slices handy in case you need a mid-party nap.

Lumberjack

Especially if you're Canadian, you probably own a plaid shirt and a toque (AKA a beanie). It's okay if you don't, though; just about every department store will have plaid shirts out the wazoo, all waiting for you to give them a home. A traditional lumberjack's attire looks best with suspenders, work boots, and an axe. Not a real axe though––a toy axe is highly recommended.

Barbie

Alright, the movie have came out a few years ago, but that doesn't make Barbie any less topical. In fact, dressing like the iconic doll is super cute and easy. All you need to do is think pink––pink lipstick, pink nail polish, pink accessories. Find the pinkest clothes you own and you'll be Barbie in no time.

Wednesday Addams

Does the idea of pink make you cringe? Not to worry, oh dark one; you have plenty of popular options that are just as easy to put together! Wednesday is a timeless character from Halloween's favorite family. Luck for you, her iconic outfit is simple enough to recreate. With braided hair and a white collar under a black dress you'll look just like her with little effort.

Cousin Itt

Another member of the Addams Family makes the list of easy costumes. How could he not? Cousin Itt only requires a top hat, black sunglasses, and your willingness to deal with hair in your face. Bonus if you can brush your long locks forward, otherwise a backwards wig will do just the trick.

Bubble Bath

Rub-a-dub-dub, your costume is a tub! A bubble bath costume is clever yet simple to make. You'll clean up nicely at the Halloween party, showing off your thrifty creativity in an outfit of balloons and bubble wrap. Rubber duckies and pearls make great accessories, too.
