Craving A Bit of Revenge?
Even when you’re completely over a breakup, there’s a small part of you that might wonder whether your ex ever regrets letting you go. Maybe you want them to realize how well you’re doing without them, or perhaps you’d simply enjoy knowing that they occasionally think about what they lost. You don’t necessarily want them back, but a little validation that you mattered can feel pretty satisfying, especially after a relationship that ended badly.

1. Realizing They Won't Find Someone Like You
Many people want their ex to regret losing them. You knew them and all their quirks, and they probably won't find someone who knows them as well as you did. It's nice to know that your ex might meet someone new and not feel like they share the same bond you both had.
2. Seeing You Happier Without Them
You want your ex to know you're better off after a breakup. Maybe they see that you're happier now, love being yourself, and enjoy hanging out with friends who love you for who you are. Even if your happiness has absolutely nothing to do with them, a little part of you might enjoy the thought that they're wondering why you seem so much better off.
3. Regretting How They Treated You
Maybe you just want your ex to know that what they did to you was wrong. You wanted them to understand that they could have done more for you and respected you more. You might hope that one day they look back on their behavior and recognize that you deserved more respect than they gave you.
4. Watching You Find Someone Better
Another thing that would be satisfying to know is that your ex finds out about your new relationship. Perhaps your new significant other does all the things your ex didn't do. You don't need your ex to be miserable about it, but seeing you receive the love they failed to give might make them reconsider their choices.
5. Realizing You Were the One Who Got Away
Even if you weren't perfect together, you might hope your ex eventually recognizes the good things you brought into their life. Maybe you were a support system for your ex and helped them when other people didn't. They should know that you tried to keep them happy and that maybe they didn't deserve you.

6. Missing the Little Things You Used to Do
Grand romantic gestures are memorable, but everyday acts of affection often leave the biggest impression after a relationship ends. Maybe they loved that you made them breakfast or liked when you sent them little text messages throughout the day. These simple acts of love could help them realize how well you treated them.
7. Seeing You Succeed at Something They Doubted You Could Do
Perhaps your ex wasn't particularly supportive of your goals, or maybe they made you feel like your ambitions were unrealistic. Perhaps your ex told you that your dreams were impossible, but you overcame those obstacles. Knowing that they doubted you could succeed, only for you to prove them wrong, might make you happy as you live the life they said you couldn't.
8. Losing Access to You
Just because someone had you available doesn't mean they learned to appreciate you. When you were in your relationship, they probably knew they could talk to you anytime. You might hope they eventually understand that your time and emotional energy were privileges, not things they were automatically entitled to receive.
9. Discovering That You're No Longer Interested
After a long period of trying to make your relationship work, you might feel happy when your ex realizes you don't care about them anymore. Maybe your ex dates other women or tells you what they've been up to, only to discover that you no longer have much interest in their life. You might find it satisfying to know that you've moved on and no longer feel the need to keep up with them.
10. Realizing Their New Relationship Isn't Better
Everyone loves to know that their ex realizes they made a mistake when they left. If your ex left you for someone else and eventually discovers that they don't enjoy spending time with that person, you might feel a little vindicated. Of course, their relationship doesn't need to fail for yours to have mattered, but the thought can still be tempting.
11. Missing Your Sense of Humor
Compatibility isn't only about serious conversations and shared life goals, because being able to laugh together matters just as much. Maybe you had ridiculous inside jokes, understood each other's sarcasm, or could turn an ordinary evening into something entertaining without much effort. Your ex might eventually realize how much they miss having someone who could make them laugh the way you did.
12. Wishing They Had Listened to Your Advice
There are some people you warn about what can happen if they don't learn from their mistakes. For some reason, they don't listen to you. You don't necessarily need them to admit you were right, although hearing those words could make the experience even more satisfying.
13. Realizing How Much Effort You Put Into the Relationship
Your ex might not know how much effort you put into your relationship. Whether it was spending time together, fixing problems, or doing things your ex might not have thought were as important, you probably contributed more than they realized. It's understandable to hope your ex eventually recognizes how much work you were doing to keep the relationship healthy, especially if they acted as though everything happened effortlessly.
14. Seeing You Enjoy Life Without Explaining Yourself
Now that you're by yourself, you can go anywhere you want and do whatever you want. If your ex knows that you're happy spending time alone, it will show them that you're happy being by yourself. You might hope they realize that you're enjoying your independence and that you no longer feel the need to justify your choices to them.
15. Regretting the Opportunities They Missed With You
If your ex knew what they missed out on, they might realize they should have stuck with you. Maybe you wanted to travel or live in a new city. You might hope that seeing you accomplish those goals on your own makes them realize that they once had the chance to share those experiences with you.
16. Discovering That Other People Appreciate You
There are some people who just don't know how great you are until other people show them. Whether it's friends who adore you or future significant others, their appreciation can remind you of your worth. You might secretly hope your ex hears about how much people enjoy having you around and wonders why they failed to appreciate those same qualities.
17. Losing the Person Who Always Had Their Back
You might want your ex to realize they lost someone who genuinely cared about them. Whether it was defending them from other people or standing by them through bad situations, you were there when they needed you. Your ex might eventually realize they had someone who always supported them and wonder why they didn't stand by you when you needed them.

18. Realizing You Won't Give Them Another Chance
Some breakups involve so many second chances that one person starts believing there will always be another opportunity to make things right. If you repeatedly forgave your ex before finally deciding to walk away, they might not immediately understand that this time is different. You may hope that the reality of losing you permanently makes them reflect on how often they took your willingness to forgive for granted.
19. Finding Out You've Changed for the Better
Maybe you changed some habits or became more yourself. That's something your ex should have recognized while you were together. If your ex sees that you're happier and working on yourself, it might make them wonder whether the relationship could have worked out differently. You might hope your ex notices the person you've become and realizes that the relationship could have been different if they'd supported your growth instead of holding you back.
20. Realizing You Were Worth More Than They Gave You
At the heart of many breakup regrets is the hope that an ex eventually understands you weren't asking for too much. You wanted honesty, affection, consistency, and the feeling that your relationship mattered to both of you, yet those basic needs may have gone unmet. Ultimately, you might hope they recognize that you deserved better, even if you never get to hear them say it.
