20 Embarrassing Things We've All Done to Get Our Crush's Attention

The Things We Do for Love

Admit it—you've probably done some pretty embarrassing things before just to catch your crush's eye. From laughing too hard at their jokes to changing your fashion style, there's nothing you wouldn't do if it meant impressing the potential love of your life. How many things have you done on this list? Here are 20 embarrassing things we've all done to get our crush's attention.

1. "Accidentally" Bump into Them

What's the easiest way to get your crush's attention? Bump into them, obviously. But since you have to keep it subtle, you need to do it like it's an accident—which means channeling your acting skills. You're pretty sure your crush can see right through your act every time, but that's not going to stop you from doing it again.

2. Laughed Too Hard at Their Jokes

It doesn't even matter what your crush says. If they say something remotely funny or try to crack a joke, you're doubling over in laughter right afterwards. Sure, maybe no one else is laughing, but that just means your crush will only see you laughing.

3. Lied About Our Interests

Your crush likes football? Okay, you too. In fact, you're going to memorize all the rules and teams and players, just so you can go up to them the next day and say, "Hey, did you see that awesome touchdown last night?" Even if the sport bores you to death, you're going to continue keeping up the act for your crush.

4. Changed Our Style

Your crush likes piercings? Okay, you're making a piercing appointment. They said their ideal type is someone who has—in your opinion—a diabolical fashion sense? Like crocs and neon pants? That's okay; you'll switch up your style just to impress them.

5. Walked in a "Cool" Way

It's not enough to just accidentally bump into your crush; you have to get their attention in other ways, too. So, what do you do? Walk in a "cool" way in front of them, of course. Maybe add a little swagger or sashay a little bit, or try to moonwalk. You know, just enough to catch their eye.

6. Changed the Way We Talk

Honestly, sometimes, we might do this without realizing. We might pitch our voices a little lower or higher to impress our crush, or we may try to mimic the way they talk. In fact, this phenomenon is even backed up by science: women tend to speak in a higher tone in front of someone they're attracted to, while men tend to speak in a lower register.

7. Knocked Something onto the Ground Near Them

Ever "accidentally" dropped a pen when your crush was walking by? Sure, it's overused and maybe even cringey, but hey, you'll do anything to get their attention, and this usually does the trick. Brownie points if you get to strike up an actual conversation with them afterwards, too.

8. Wore a Scent They Liked

Your crush likes the scent of lavender? Okay, you're changing your body wash, shampoo, and perfume or cologne to suit their tastes. That way, you can subtly walk by them to waft the fragrance over, and see if that'll make them notice you.

9. Put Our Jacket on Their Seat

Putting your jacket on your crush's seat does two things: it tells others to back off, and it also subtly shows your interest in them. Whether or not your crush actually interprets (or notices) the action as such is another thing altogether, but that's not stopping you from trying to make a statement.

10. Lied About Something We Did or Made Up a Crazy Story

Your crush likes people who take risks? Okay, you can work with that. Sure, maybe the craziest thing you've ever done was get stuck in a tree for three hours after saving the neighbor's cat—but you're going to make yourself heroic and say that you not only saved the cat's whole family, but you also backflipped off the tree easy-peasy.

11. Liked Their Social Media Post

Who doesn't stalk their crush's social media? What's probably the most embarrassing thing about this is that, most of the time, you don't actually want your crush to find out you've been peeping at their old Instagram posts from four years ago. But then you accidentally "liked" one of their posts, and now you have to act like it was completely intentional.

12. Tried to Be a Comedian

You're not just off to the side laughing at your crush's jokes—you're in the spotlight trying to be a stand-up comedian, too. Sure, sometimes your material isn't great, but every time you get your crush to laugh, that's a win.

13. Rehearsed a Script Before Talking to Them

Even if you don't necessarily have social anxiety, it can be extremely nerve-racking to talk to your crush, especially for the first time. Your secret? Rehearse a script in your head and in front of the mirror before you actually talk to them. The conversation usually never goes the way you expected, but as long as you get their attention, that's considered a success.

14. Pretended to Flirt with Someone Else

Yup—you've even tried the jealousy card before. You might do this to gauge your crush's interest in you or just to see how they'd react. If they seem jealous—score. If they don't seem to care or notice, then, well... It doesn't hurt to try again.

15. Memorized Lines from Their Favorite TV Show or Movie

You're not just pretending you like their hobbies, like football and classical music—you're also staying up at night to binge-watch their favorite TV show, just so you can strike up a conversation with them about it. That way, you can throw out a line from one of their favorite characters and pretend that you've always liked the show.

16. Pretended You Were Cold (or Warm)

Ever pretended you were warm just so you could offer your hoodie to your crush? Or ever pretended you felt chilly to see if your crush would give you their jacket? Either way, you've probably used this method to not only get your crush's attention, but to also wear their clothes.

17. Hung Around Their Favorite Hangout Spot

Your crush likes hanging around the library in the evenings? Okay, looks like you're also going to the library every evening from now on. In fact, you might even volunteer there, read all their favorite books, and try to subtly bump into them every chance you get.

18. Did Fancy Maneuvers Behind the Wheel

If you have the opportunity to give your crush a ride, you're going to do everything to impress them behind the wheel. Maybe you drive a little faster, do some nifty turns, or put your hand behind the passenger's seat when reversing. Anything to win your crush's affection.

19. Pretended to "Missend" a Text

Don't lie—you've probably sent a "heyyy" text to your crush, tried backtracking by pretending "oh, sorry, that wasn't for you!" only to use it as a conversation starter. When it works, the embarrassment pays off; when it doesn't, you're locking your phone and burying yourself in the covers.

20. Befriended Their Friends

You're not just trying to impress your crush and catch their attention—you're trying to win their friends over, too. After all, if your crush's friends accept you, you've made it into the inner circle. Plus, you could even ask them for tailored advice and get their support.
