Were You the Athlete, the Overachiever, or the Party Animal?
College was a fun time, except for all the work. What makes it so special and memorable is the eclectic group of people we meet during these years. We forge relationships, some of which will carry on after college, with people from different backgrounds and walks of life. Whether you graduated decades ago or just started your first semester, here are 20 different types of people you meet in college.
1. The Overachiever
You will probably meet a few overachievers during your college years. They're always sitting in the front row, join every club, and tend to raise their hand to answer a question before it's even asked. These people might be a bit annoying, but they are a welcome addition to every study group.
2. The Procrastinator
You will meet a procrastinator at some point. It might be on the first day or the last day of the semester when they finally get around to introducing themselves. Their intentions aren't bad, but they always wait until the last minute to study or submit an assignment. It's just who they are.
3. The Party Animal
Everyone loves the party animal until they keep you out too late one night, and you miss your classes the next day. They're out partying all the time, even during the week. They're fun and sociable, and always the life of the party.
4. The Athlete
College athletes balance classes and their sport. They live in the gym in between classes, wear team gear everywhere, and might even get some preferential treatment from professors. They deal with a packed schedule, and you will admire their dedication.
5. The Gamer
You will know someone is a gamer the minute you step inside their dorm room. Their space is filled with consoles, energy drinks, and headsets. They spend hours playing video games, often skipping meals and classes. The best thing you can do for a gamer is bring them a granola bar now and then.
6. The Activist
The activist is the student who is passionate about causes, or sometimes every cause. They organize allies, try to get you to sign petitions, and are always open to a heated debate. Their college years are devoted to raising awareness and inspiring others.
7. The Comedian
The comedian is quick with a joke, meme, or something witty to say. They are great at lightening the mood during exam time, but can be distracting when the professor is trying to teach. Ultimately, they love making everyone laugh.
8. The Bookworm
This type of person prefers the library to the bar. They always have their head in a textbook or some kind of required reading. They are thoughtful, humble, and insightful, and are a great presence at any study session.
9. The Entrepreneur
The entrepreneur is always running a side hustle, and you might even get dragged into a few. They could be selling exam prep sheets or reselling running shoes. For them, college is a time to network, not study.
10. The Sleep-Deprived
The person yawning in the back row of the lecture hall is the sleep-deprived student. They live off one cup of coffee after another, and it's a mystery as to why they stay up so late every night.

13. The Free Spirit
To pick out the free spirit in the quad, look for the person not wearing shoes. They love yoga and travelling, and the idea of living unconventionally. Their role is to remind people not to take college too seriously.
14. The Transfer Student
The transfer student arrives during your second or third year, and they can inject freshness into the environment. They're eager to find their place and can be a bit overly ambitious until they stop feeling like an outsider.

17. The Frat Boy/Sorority Girl
The frat boy or sorority girl loves living the Greek life. They are dedicated to the social events and philanthropy of their fraternity or sorority, and their closest friends are their frat brothers or sorority sisters. These can be fun friends to have during college, but if you're not a member of their frat or sorority, you might never get that close.

The exchange student can be a novelty as they bring a fresh perspective from a different culture. They are eager to experience all that college offers, and might just need the right guide to make it happen.
