3 Things You Shouldn't Give Your Baby in Their First Year

A baby’s first year comes with plenty of new foods and milestones, but a few choices require extra caution. This guide looks at three things parents should avoid giving babies during their first 12 months. First is honey, which should be avoided before age one because of the risk of infant botulism. Cow’s milk should also not replace breast milk or infant formula as a baby’s main drink during the first year because it does not provide the right balance of nutrients. Finally, certain foods can create serious choking hazards. Whole nuts, whole grapes, large chunks of raw fruit or vegetables, and round pieces of hot dog need to be avoided or prepared safely for a baby’s age and development. Always supervise babies while eating and follow guidance from your pediatrician for introducing foods. Watch until the end and tell us which baby feeding tip every new parent should know.
