Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don’t, window-wise. Sadly, not all of us get the beauty of a corner bedroom with floor-to-ceiling panes, or a living room that gives you a healthy dose of natural morning light.
But just because there’s a lack of sun doesn’t mean you can’t have a truly beautiful space. There are many ways that you can jazz up your windowless room that don’t involve a hefty construction fee.
Mirrors
Mirrors bounce any sort of light you have around your space, which is a great way to mimic some natural light and add depth to the room.
Your best bet is to get a super tall mirror, especially if you have a short ceiling, or you can go ahead and make a mirror wall to add a decorative element.
Neon
If there’s no sun, why not turn your room into a neon paradise? Add a few small plug-in neon signs around your space and turn it into a party for one.
There are many cost-effective neon signs that you can purchase from Amazon, Walmart, or even Dollarama. Or, you can go the customizable route and get something that really speaks to you and your personality.
Layers
A room with no windows is ultimately a very cozy space, so why not double down on that? Add multiple rugs, blankets, tapestries, and other comfy fabrics.
If your room is a bedroom, this is also an appropriate time to add fairy lights and some over-the-top bedding. For living spaces, this is the perfect place to create a movie theatre atmosphere. Save your lighting spaces for conversation or reading, and pop your TV into the darkest corners of your home.
Add A Faux Window
If you’re really missing natural lighting that badly, a faux window might be exactly what you need.
Faux windows are easy to put up, requiring just an LED panel and a couple of semi-cheer curtains. Alternatively, you can make a faux skylight by adding a decorative light panel to your ceiling.
Bonus points if your faux window is a SAD lamp, which can help with battling the winter blues.
Glossy Paint
Many interior design catalogues often state that you should opt for white, light blue, or other pastel hues to make things feel brighter and bigger. While you can go for this color palette if you so choose, picking a bolder color or even a pattern will add some visual interest and charm to the space.
Regardless of color, your best bet is also to go with a glossy paint. Glossy paints automatically have a more reflective surface, which will maximize light reflection, even if said light is artificial.
