Welcome to High Living
Rich people have plenty of things we everyday folks don’t—oodles of money, car collections, and massive houses name a few. However, while the exterior is daunting enough, those mansions’ interiors are like something from a dream.
1. Wine Cellar
We all have a bottle of wine stashed away somewhere, but only the truly affluent have an entire cellar. Collections range from vintage bottles to acquired tastes—and it’s nothing like the grocery store variety at home.
2. Complete Library
You’ll find books in just about every house. What you won’t find, however, is a complete library. Though bookworms dream of a room dedicated to the written word, they’re usually reserved for above-average incomes.
3. Sweeping Staircase
Sweeping staircases look like they’re pulled straight from Disney movies. Often clad with gold railings or sat beneath dangling chandeliers, these staircases aren’t in the everyday home.
4. Home Gym
We’re not talking about a set of hand weights or that fold-up treadmill under the sofa. We’re talking about a completely finished home gym. They have more than one machine, the walls come with floor-to-ceiling mirrors, and that sound system is unlike anything we set up in the garage.
5. A Lot of Space
Open space screams affluence. Only the largest homes boast beautiful living rooms or master bedrooms bigger than our first floor. When you have space to twirl around, you know you’re in a rich person’s home.
6. Multiple Ovens
Any kitchen with multiple ovens is a rich kitchen. While the rest of us sweat over an outdated model, the upper-class not only enjoys a huge space but several pristine appliances, too.
7. Gigantic Bathroom
Have you ever walked into a bathroom and thought, “This is bigger than my bedroom”? That there is a clear-cut sign you’re in a rich person’s bathroom. Try not to look at the perfume trays or jacuzzi tubs either—they’ll only make you feel worse.
8. Untouched Rooms
Nothing says affluence like cobwebbed rooms. With a house that big, it’s hard to fill every space. The next thing you know that second guest bathroom becomes a ghost town.
9. Built-In Sound System
With that price tag, you won’t catch built-in sound systems on our walls. You certainly won’t find one in a home theater either…which is something else we don’t have. (Phew, and here we thought the Beats Pill was expensive.)
10. Working Staff
There’s nothing wrong with leaning on a little assistance—but we definitely can’t afford it. As much as we’d love the help for ourselves, housekeepers and nannies are really more for the upper-middle class.
11. A Heated Pool
Do yourself a favor: find friends with a heated pool. Between the installation fees and hair-raising maintenance costs, rich folks can have this one.
12. Huge Flatscreen TV
The richest homes have all the latest tech, and that includes crisp flatscreens worth several thousand dollars. Some can even climb into the tens of thousands, though we try not to think about it.
13. Heated Bathroom Tiles
A bath mat is the best thing we can hope for after our showers. Rich people, on the other hand, step onto perfectly heated tiles and we’re definitely not jealous.
14. Multiple Car Garage
You’d be lucky to find a garage at all in this day and age. Of course, affluent families don’t have to worry about that. Every car is comfortably tucked away for the night in a multi-vehicle garage we can only dream of.
15. Strange Decor
Let’s be honest—mansions are stuffed with the ugliest decor you’ve ever seen. The only thing that could possibly make that sculpture worse is how much it cost.
16. Home Theater
Ah, here it is! The pièce de résistance we all drool over: a home theater equipped with massive screens, seat-rumbling bass, and a stocked snack bar. Not only that, but you can play whatever movies you want and don’t have to worry about any fighting strangers for the armrest.
17. Several Guest Rooms
If you ever sleep at our house, you’re getting a blanket on the sofa. If you ever stay at a wealthy person’s house, you’re getting one of many queen mattresses in one of many spare bedrooms.
18. Fully Stocked Bar
Basements and dens make a perfect recreational space, which includes fully stocked bars. Neverending top-notch booze flows from these taps, with shelves lined from top to bottom. It’s definitely a step up from the cooler of beer we have.
19. Music Room
Rich people often have entire rooms for collector’s instruments—a museum of signed guitars or replica pianos Billy Joel used. While it’s amazing to fawn over, it's not exactly a collection for the everyday person.
20. Chandeliers
Chandeliers seem tame compared to other items on this list, but they still deserve a spot. Giant light fixtures grace only the most affluent homes, leaving the rest of us to read our books under a sconce.
