Relationship Enders: 20 Things You Should Never Forgive Your Partner For
When a Bad Habit Becomes a Dealbreaker
Every relationship will face mistakes, awkward arguments, and moments where you might say the wrong thing, but those are all normal and difficulties that, when faced together with forgiveness, make you both stronger. There are, however, some things that you can't and shouldn't ever overlook. Here are 20 things you shouldn't ever forgive your partner for doing because they violate your trust, hurt your feelings, and are just downright toxic.
1. Constantly Lying About Small Things
If a healthy relationship is built on the foundation of trust, being with a partner who lies about even minor details is a major red flag. Once you start to feel like you need to verify every story, no matter how big or small, the relationship has already lost something important that can be easily replaced.
2. Humiliating You in Front of Other People
Playful teasing can be harmless, but deliberately embarrassing you in front of others for laughs is downright disrespectful. A partner should never reveal your insecurities, mock your mistakes, or make you the joke of every gathering. Someone who values you will protect your dignity instead of using it to entertain an audience.
3. Giving You the Silent Treatment
It's understandable if your partner needs some privacy to cool down after a disagreement, but completely refusing to speak to you as punishment is another matter. Giving you the cold shoulder doesn't just show extreme immaturity, but it leaves problems unresolved and forces you to be the one to chase after basic communication.
4. Sharing Your Private Business
There's a mutual understanding that things you tell your partner in privacy are only for their ears, unless agreed otherwise. So if they go around telling friends, relatives, or coworkers, completely disrespecting your wishes and sharing intimate details about your relationship, that's not something they can redo or erase and you'll have to live with it.
5. Repeatedly Breaking Important Promises
It's one thing to say you promise to do something, and it's another to actually follow through. Keeping your word is extremely important in a relationship because it's how you grow to rely and trust one another. Partners who repeatedly break their promise only show that their words carry very little weight.
6. Dismissing Everything You Feel
You won’t always agree on how serious a problem is, but your feelings still deserve consideration. A partner who constantly calls you dramatic, sensitive, or irrational isn't just disrespecting your concerns, but is also trying to make you feel lesser than. You should never feel like you need to argue your case to your partner.
7. Comparing You to an Ex
Leave the past in the past. Partners who use exes as a point of comparison to you aren't worth keeping around, and you shouldn't forgive them for doing that. It's rude, unnecessary, and honestly shows they're still stuck in the past.
8. Flirting With Others to Make You Jealous
Deliberately creating jealousy is a childish way to seek attention or gain control. Whether it happens online, at parties, or directly in front of you, you should never accept being with someone who plays with your emotion in such a hurtful, cruel way.
9. Refusing to Apologize
Being with a partner who refuses to apologize, even when they're clearly in the wrong or hurting you, is not worth your time or energy. It shows a clear lack of maturity and that they don't truly care about your feelings. If they don't want to apologize, why should you be the one to forgive them for that?
10. Sabotaging Your Goals
Your partner doesn’t need to share every ambition, but they should never interfere with your progress. Discouraging you from applying for a job, interrupting study time, or mocking a personal project shows a lack of support that you deserve. Love should make room for your growth, not hinder it.
11. Expecting You to Handle Everything
Why be in a relationship if it's really just you? It's exhausting being the only person managing chores, appointments, plans, and responsibility. You should never glaze over the fact that your partner puts in no effort; it's a choice they're making.
12. Regularly Canceling Plans at the Last Minute
Although unexpected problems can happen time to time, consistently cancelling plans last minute is disrespectful to you and your time. They're basically telling you they have better things to do, clearly showing where you rank on their priority list. That's nothing something you should forgive them for when you're still showing up.

13. Ignoring Your Clearly Stated Boundaries
Boundaries are set for a reason; they're not flexible rules you can test every now and then. If you've clearly asked your partner not to do something because it makes you uncomfortable, and they do it repeatedly anyway, you don't need to accept their apology that they clearly don't mean.
14. Criticizing Your Appearance
You should never be made to feel worse about yourself when you're with someone you love; they should be lifting you up. That's why repeated comments about your weight, clothes, hair, or age should never be tolerated. Someone who cares about you would never judge or make hurtful comments in that way.

15. Treating Service Workers Badly
How someone treats waiters, cashiers, drivers, and other workers says a great deal about their character. Don't ignore this red flag when you see it; rudeness toward people they don’t need to impress can be especially revealing.
16. Blackmailing You Into Staying
If you finally make up your mind to leave and they threaten to reveal your secrets, ruin your career, or destroy your reputation, you need to understand there's no turning back. A relationship maintained through fear is toxic and dangerous, and you should have the right to end a relationship without needing to negotiate terms.
17. Keeping Major Financial Secrets
Buying an occasional treat without announcing it isn’t a problem, but hiding significant debt, secret accounts, large purchases, or repeated overspending is simply dangerous, especially when finances are shared. Money problems can often be solved, but only if both parties are open and honest.
18. Disrespecting the People You Care About
Just because your partner is good to you doesn't mean you should tolerate him having poor behavior to others, especially those you love. Insulting them, creating unnecessary conflict, or pressuring you to cut them off shows little regard for your relationships and should be treated as if he's saying those things directly to you.
19. Using Your Past Mistakes in Every Argument
We're all human and we're allowed to make mistakes, especially if we learn from them and move on. But being with a partner who repeatedly brings back old flaws and errors to use in an argument isn't just showing they care about winning the fight, but that they'll do whatever it takes, include hurting you, to get there.
20. Stealing From You
Taking your cash, valuables, identity information, or property without permission is theft, even when you share a home. Returning the item later doesn't erase the decision to violate your trust for personal benefit, and this kind of serious offense isn't the kind of thing you should ever forgive.
