Growing Older Has Its Perks
Getting older comes with plenty of changes, but not all of them are things people wish they could reverse. Many older adults look back on their younger years fondly while also remembering the parts that were exhausting, awkward, expensive, or simply inconvenient. From dealing with school and early jobs to worrying about appearances and trying to impress everyone around you, youth isn't always as carefree as it sounds.
1. Trying to Impress Everyone
When you are younger, you worry about everyone around you liking you. You may worry about your friends, family, co-workers, and people you don't know and what they think about you. When you get older, you can choose what you want to do and not worry about whether they like it or not.
2. Being Unsure of Yourself
As you get younger, there are so many questions that come to mind. What do you want to do with your life? How do you feel about this person you're seeing? Do you have enough money? What do you want out of life? It's hard to make these decisions when you're younger because you don't have much knowledge about them.
3. School Stress
Nobody ever enjoys having to go to school. Everyone may enjoy school, but no one likes having homework to do. There's something satisfying about reaching an age when nobody is asking you to memorize something for a test next week.
4. Awkward Social Situations
Everyone knows what it's like to be younger. You don't know what to say to girls or guys. You may not know how to act at parties or gatherings. Older people may remember those moments fondly, but they're usually happy to have left some of the awkwardness behind.
5. Low-Paying First Jobs
Everyone has that job that you started working at where you knew you weren't getting paid much. But when you're older and you have more money in your pocket, it's nice. Having a huge checkbook that you can buy things you want with instead of working hard for just that amount.
6. Feeling Like You Have to Follow Trends
Youth culture can come with plenty of pressure to wear the right clothes, listen to the right music, use the right slang, or own the latest gadgets. Keeping up can become surprisingly expensive and tiring. Older people often enjoy having the freedom to decide what they actually like without feeling obligated to follow whatever happens to be popular.
7. Dating Without Much Experience
You don't know what you want out of a relationship and try to figure that out while you're with that person. It's annoying to wonder if he or she likes you or not. Some dates may even leave you not wanting to see that person again. Having more experience can make relationships easier to navigate because you generally know what you're willing to accept and what you aren't.

8. Constantly Worrying About Your Appearance
No one likes being self-conscious about how they look. As you get younger, you'll start noticing every little thing that bothers you about your body. Many older adults reach a point where comfort and feeling good matter more than whether their appearance meets whatever standard happens to be popular.

9. Being Dependent on Parents
Living with your parents can have plenty of advantages, but younger people don't always appreciate the rules that come with it. Someone else may decide when you're expected home, what you can do, or how certain parts of the household work. Being independent can bring more responsibility, but it also gives you much greater control over your daily life.
10. Trying to Choose a Career
There are so many options when it comes to your career. When you're younger, you may think that you're deciding on your whole life path. As you get older, you may find that there are other paths that can help you. It's never too late to learn more about what you enjoy.
11. Friendship Drama
When you're younger, your friends can be very close. You can have arguments that could last for weeks and take you away from that person for months. People grow up and learn not to let small issues get to them.
12. Having to Ask for Permission
Everyone has rules. Whether it be at home, school, or work, you have to ask for something. Maybe it's asking your parent to take you somewhere. Older adults frequently enjoy the simple fact that they can make ordinary choices without asking someone else first.
13. Financial Mistakes With Little Experience
Learning how money works usually involves making a few mistakes along the way. Young adults may underestimate expenses, overspend on things they don't need, or discover that certain financial decisions have consequences they hadn't considered. Experience doesn't eliminate every money problem, but it can make it easier to recognize trouble before it becomes a bigger issue.
14. Feeling Pressure to Have Everything Figured Out
You may know that you want to go to college and live a happy life with children. Many things you know when you're younger are things you think you'll accomplish. As you get older, you learn that it's not always easy.
15. Long Nights With Little Sleep
Everyone knows that it's fun to stay up late when you're younger. Doing parties that last until sunrise or not being able to fall asleep for nights. When you're older, you want to make sure you get a good night's sleep. You may not want to lose sleep anymore and stay up late.
16. Being Treated Like You Don't Know Anything
We all have good ideas when we are younger. It's annoying when they think because you're younger that you don't know anything. With age, having your experience taken seriously can be one of the more satisfying changes.
17. Making Friends From Scratch
Throughout our life, we meet many people. In school and when you're younger, you are always meeting new people. You may love meeting new people but learn how to maintain relationships when you're older.
18. The Pressure to Take Every Opportunity
When you're younger, you want to do everything that everyone asks you to do. Because you think if you don't do it now, you'll never have that opportunity. With more experience, many people become comfortable recognizing that not every opportunity deserves their time.
19. Not Knowing Your Own Limits
When you're young, it's easy to assume you can work all day, stay out all night, handle every responsibility, and somehow still have energy left over. Eventually, you learn that ignoring your limits doesn't make them disappear. Knowing when to rest, say no, or slow down can make life considerably easier.
20. Worrying About Getting Older
One of the more amusing things about youth is how much time some people spend worrying about eventually getting older. Turning 25, 30, or 40 can seem impossibly far away and strangely dramatic when you're younger. Then you reach those ages and realize that getting older can also mean knowing yourself better, caring less about pointless drama, and finally becoming comfortable with who you are.
