There Are Some Dumb Smart Devices Out There
Advanced technology often benefits our well-being but some items just don't need high-tech improvements. If we have a gadget for everything, we'd need a separate house just to store them. Do we really need our refrigerators to let us know we're out of milk? We'll let you decide. Here are home devices we love and some we think are just plain silly.
1. Egg Minder
Do we really need our egg carton to tell us we're low on eggs? We don't think this invention is all it's cracked up to be. It's not hard to count how many eggs you have left and you know if an egg is rotten from its powerful stench. We don't need an egg minder attached to our phones for any of these reasons.
2. Electric Can Opener
A normal can opener is simple enough to use and fits in a drawer. An electric can opener just takes up counter space and doesn't open your cans any quicker. This device is just wasting space, energy, and your money.
3. Banana Slicer
Does a banana slicer actually save you that much time? It's one of those novelty kitchen gadgets you get as a gift and use once. A banana is so soft you can cut one in seconds with a butter knife. You have to wash a banana slicer by hand, while the knife you can throw in the dishwasher.
4. Wifi Kettle
A wifi kettle sounds great because you can boil your water from bed by using your phone. The only problem is that the kettle doesn't magically fill itself with water, so you're going to have to roll out of bed anyway. Pretty sure you can manage to press the "on" button while you're still half asleep.
5. Smart Smart Salt Shaker
This is a very dumb dumb use of technology. We do not need a smart shaker for our salt and pepper, we're perfectly capable of shaking it the old-fashioned way. If we want music or lights while we dine, we can use our speakers and flick a light switch.
6. Magic Tap
Abracadabra! Your money just disappeared down the drain. It's magic that this unnecessary dispenser made it on the market. It saves us from having to lift up a juice carton and pour it into a cup. If they're too heavy for you, try buying smaller jugs or pouring your juice into smaller containers.
7. Electric Martini Shaker
An electric martini mixer is another waste of energy and space. If you're a real martini drinker, you'd be embarrassed to have one of these devices in your kitchen. The non-digital cordless martini shaker will do just fine, cheers!
8. Microwaveable Bacon Cooker
If you're planning on cooking your bacon in the microwave, we need to talk. Unless you literally don't own any other cooking device, a microwave should be the last thing anybody uses to cook bacon. The fact that a microwaveable bacon cooker exists is terrifying.
9. Pickle Picker
When you stick a fork into a pickle it transforms into a pickle picker without the silly name. A pickle picker is fun to say but it's utterly useless. A fork will save you from sticking your fingers into the jar, you don't need a special stick.
10. Automated Floss Dispenser
We didn't realize it was difficult to pull the dental floss out of a regular floss dispenser. We applaud you for flossing your teeth but you won't get a gold star for buying one these pointless devices. Buy the dental sticks if you can't maneuver the string yourself.
